We tend to be a tad meat-centric here on FGA, but we definitely love our baked goods as well; with Lunch dessert being the most important dessert of the day.<\/p>\n

If you have not been by the West Erie Plaza lately, there is a lot going on.\u00a0 It is in the midst of a major renovation and they are really trying to make it a shopping destination in Erie once again.\u00a0 Among the newly opened tenants is Icing on the Lake.\u00a0 They were previously located on West 12th Street near the airport.\u00a0 I had their baked goods before, and was very impressed by them.\u00a0 Though I have only visited them a couple times at the new location, everything has been superb.\u00a0 Their website:<\/p>\n

For this review I decided to focus on their cupcakes.\u00a0 They have different ones available throughout the week, which is posted on their menu board online and in store.\u00a0 I have sampled most of them by this point but need to visit more to try all of them.\u00a0 Challenge accepted!<\/p>\n

No need to do bore you with full tasting notes for each one (though, we are fancy here).\u00a0 I’ll hit the highlights.\u00a0 All of the cupcakes were nice and moist with a generous amount of frosting.\u00a0 The red velvet and carrot cake were both good; a solid mini-me of their full-size counterparts.\u00a0 I did not know what to expect from the topping on the hot chocolate cupcake.\u00a0 Turned out it was a light whipped cream. \u00a0 A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.\u00a0 The bee’s knees was my least favorite.\u00a0 It had a light sweetness and overall honey flavor.\u00a0 Still good in its own right, but if I had it to do over again I would choose a different one to round out the box (perhaps caramel latte or peanut butter cup).<\/p>\n

My hands down favorite is the salted caramel.\u00a0 A hefty buttercream frosting with a bit of salt sprinkled on it.\u00a0 In the cupcake itself there is a good size deposit of liquid caramel filling that sits just under the frosting.\u00a0 Seriously one of the best things I’ve ever eaten.<\/p>\n

Icing on the lake has a range of baked goods available, though I have not yet sampled all of them.\u00a0 I have had the cake pops, macaroons, cookies, and cupcakes (of course).\u00a0 All have been very good.<\/p>\n
