A growing trend here in Erie, PA is the concept of the rooftop restaurant and bar. We live on the shores of Lake Erie, and it seems like a no-brainer to take advantage of the scenery, particularly on Erie’s Bayfront.
We have two new locations down on the bayfront, and the one I checked out recently was the U Pick 6 Pier 6 Rooftop Restaurant and Bar. Oddly enough, it is located on the third-floor deck of the Courtyard by Marriott hotel parking garage, but the entrance to the space is not important. It’s all about the view with this place. If you’ve visited any of the other “House” locations around Erie (Harbor House in Harborcreek or Public House in Millcreek), you know the menu, but at Pier 6, they’ve taken a different approach. Instead of a relatively unified menu, this location has a lot of different items over the other locations. The menu is still in development, but the offerings thus far are mouth-watering.
During today’s visit, I opted to try the Smoked Brisket Sandwich. It is served on a brioche bun that is thrown on the grille to crisp things up. The brisket is shaved, topped with cheese and lightly sauced with an in-house mild BBQ sauce. I opted for the season fries as my side, and while they are thin, the level of seasoning is just right. As you do, I also opted for a side of ranch dressing (universal condiment) for dipping my fries, and it did not disappoint.
One thing that has been tough for restaurants everywhere has been staffing. Erie is no exception to this trend, but the team at U Pick 6 made some changes ahead of Pier 6 opening, and it shows. The staff and service were excellent! During our time in the outdoor dining area, the staff was attentive, and we had no issues at all.
I highly recommend that you get out there and visit the folks at Pier 6. It’s a great addition to the growing collection of high-quality locally-owned eateries. Happy eating!
