Fellow Fat Guy Reviewer Scott and I have been to Pineapple Eddie’s quite a few times before this review, and one of the things that makes it stand out in the sea of eateries in the Erie area is its home-style Southern/Cajun offerings. No LOCAL places (not a chain) offer food that could be billed as “Southern” or “Cajun” in quite the same way as Pineapple Eddie Southern Bistro, and thus Pineapple Eddie is a welcome addition to the Erie-area. It’s nice to see a Family-owned and operated restaurant succeed, and it’s also nice to see a restaurant with an above average and somewhat uncommon board-of-fare thrive. Pineapple Eddie Southern Bistro is a great place to enjoy a lunch or dinner, and the atmosphere is conducive to just about any occasion. My coworkers generally stop by for lunch, and I have yet to be disappointed by a meal. The food isn’t just “good”. The food offered at Pineapple Eddie is as flavorful as it is high quality. It has both in heaping quantities! The quality of the offerings on the menu are not as expensive as you might imagine for a place with “Bistro” in the name, but even if they are a dollar or two higher than some of the chain offerings in the area, there’s a lot to be said for Quality over Quantity. The portions are just right, and each meal is cooked to perfection and presented as if it belonged in some city other than Erie. The Erie area is home to a large number of chain restaurants offering many of the same kind of things, and thus the presentation of food isn’t necessarily something you might note at one of those locations. Everything about Pineapple Eddie Southern Bistro always leaves Scott and myself saying, “We should come by here a lot more often”.
On our last visit, I sampled the Chicken and Waffle Sandwich. Everything is scratch-made (naturally), and it was as perfect as you might expect. Normally when I order something with Chicken at most places, I am already resigned to the fact that the Chicken itself will be disappointing in some way, but that’s not the case here. It was flavorful, tender, and juicy. The toppings on the sandwich, along with the homemade waffles that made up the bread, were delightful. I also ordered soup with my sandwich. One of the special soup du jour offerings was a Tomato Basil soup with mushrooms. The soup itself was anything but your average Campbell’s Tomato Soup. It’s scratch-made just like everything else on the menu. The soup itself was thick without being too thick, and the flavor was just right. It was mild in flavor, creamy in texture, and the addition of the mushrooms added a little extra something that made the bowl of this delightful soup something truly special! As always, the food and customer service were excellent, and I look forward to my next visit to Pineapple Eddie Southern Bistro! If you’re in the area, give it a try!
